Jarhead Hive Tyrant

In Spring 2008 I had the idea about a Hive Tyrant which should be epic in his pose and athmosphere.

It took me about 1 week to finish this big bug up. The base is a big wooden block where I put a real stone on it and finished it together with an acrylic artist paste, also I have put a space marine in it and some tyranid bitz I had around.

I really wanted to stay in cold dark colours, a bit alien style. So I mainly worked with black, blues and grey on the bug. Also I went for the base with those colours to get a nightly feeling. I first brought him to a grey/blueish bright tone. Then I shaded him down in the following way:

I used a chaotic mix of black ink (windsor&newton), brown ink (w&n) a drop of Blue and Vallejo smoke + a lot of water and let it 'soak in'. i will do this 2 more times, with a bit less smoke and more black (GW) for the darkest shadows.
