Hive Fleet Dendrobates

  Hi,

I’m Gareth and I’m the proud owner of Hive Fleet Dendrobates.

Dendrobates: Latin for poison dart frog. This was my inspiration for the markings on my Behemoth splinter fleet. Typical red Behemoth skin and black carapace, but with bright yellow markings like the poison dart frogs. I also liked the name Dendrobates, it sounded like a name that would come from Imperial Gothic, a debased form of Latin.

I’ve been a Tyranid fan since 1993, where my first box of models was 10 classic genestealers. Hive Fleet Dendrobates is my 3rd Tyranid army. Having collected them in 2nd edition, 3rd edition and now 4th through to 5th edition 40k.

The Hive fleet colour scheme and patterning is constantly evolving as I have new ideas and learn fresh techniques. I’ve not locked myself into a set scheme, and wouldn’t think twice to doing a reverse of the colour scheme, like yellow skin, black armour and red markings. The pattern on the carapace started off as an elaborate swirly symmetrical pattern which almost covered the entire carapace, but now it is far more sublime and subtle and is a collection of small yellow dots in clusters.

Here’s to feasting and harvesting biomass for another 15 years.
