“But, Lord Commander, it came from no where, it didn’t show up on any auspexes, it dropped from the skies in the middle of our position.”

”Brother Sergeant, compose yourself. Describe the creature to me?”

“It hit our formation and before we could react it sprayed 4 of our battle brothers with these… these bug creatures. Our warriors fell within moments, screaming over the commlink… I’ve never heard an Astartes scream… it was as if the critters had devourered their way into their brains. No way for a Space Marine to die.”

“Describe the creature!” The ordo xenos inquisitor bellowed.

Brother Rapheus suddenly realised who he was talking to and military doctrination kicked in.

“It was huge and winged. The wingspan was longer then a landraider, and the bug firing guns were growing out of the wings and the front limbs. The beast featured a large crest on its head.”

“Probably synaptic, likely a Tyrant” interrupted the inquisitor.

Rapheus continued “It was taller then a Venerable Dreadnought and just as strong. It slashed out with its clawed feet and snapping jaws throwing aside another 3 battle brothers and biting one poor astartes clean in two.”

Inquistor pondered “Where was the 9th member of your unit Rapheus.”

Rapheus shuddered… “he…he was taken alive. I still have his life signs on my scanner.”

 “Interesting, my theory about the live feeding of underground broodnests may be true. Patch the life sign signals through to my suit, I need to see this for myself.”
